This year, Big Apple Greeter honored David Checketts – one of the best known executives in sports, media and entertainment – in two very different ways.
In late April, David proved to be an exceptional Greeter for the Day. He is Chairman and CEO of Legends Hospitality Management, the company that runs concessions for Circle Line Cruises, the sight-seeing ships that travel around Manhattan. David took his visitors, a honeymooning Dutch couple, on a Circle Line cruise down the Hudson River. Joining them was our beloved founder Lynn Brooks and they all got along famously.
As a surprise, David arranged a special visit to the “Captain’s Quarters” where everyone had a chance to steer the ship. After the journey, he assured the elated honeymooners, “You wouldn’t have experienced this if it weren’t for Big Apple Greeter.”
Just two weeks later, David was honored with Big Apple Greeter’s Good Corporate Citizen award at our Spring Recognition Event. He was recognized for a career that spans four decades, successfully leading such iconic brands as Madison Square Garden and The New York Knicks.
In accepting the award, David spoke about Big Apple Greeter as a way of expressing his deep love of New York. He said it was a “privilege to be part of such an important organization,” and it was Big Apple Greeter’s privilege to accept his generous $10,000 donation from Legends.
