Keep us in your thoughts. Put us in your will.
Our generous Greeter, Bob Ross, came up with an Inheritance Giving plan for us. Big Apple Greeter will receive a $500 check now from The Janet Ross Fund when anyone includes us in their will, living trust, or makes us a beneficiary of their IRA.
Here’s the beautiful story behind Inheritance Giving
BOB AND JANET AND BIG APPLE GREETER: A LOVE STORY.
Bob Ross became a Greeter in May, 2017. He surprised us in July with his $1000 donation to the Macy’s Charity Challenge – the day the Challenge was launched.
Little did we know his generosity to Big Apple Greeter were the wishes of his late wife Janet.
After Janet’s inoperable brain tumor was discovered just 8 years into their 42-year marriage, they promised each other to make donations to charitable organizations over time and at their deaths.
Janet lived many years longer than expected and donating became a habit for the Rosses. Big Apple Greeter made her list because (at that time) we gave away subway passes to visitors and that amazed her.
Bob was her sole caregiver for 34 years, so they had plenty of time to discuss the future. If he died first, Janet said she would put his ashes on the mantle and complain that he wasn’t around to be her gopher! If she died first, she wanted to donate to causes like Big Apple Greeter.
Bob and Janet’s love for each other and for Big Apple Greeter is only equaled by the love Big Apple Greeter has for them. They are helping to ensure that Big Apple Greeter endures. Such exquisite generosity can only come from human beings who truly know the meaning of humanity.
